OpenSuse on my Vaio Update!
Jan 21, 2008
Looking on some forums and trying to load the memory stick, i found that doing
# lspci (as root)
displays information about all PCI buses in the system and all devices connected to them. I find written the FireWire and the Memory Stick reader but they both don't have a (rev_ _) at the end. I think that the system recognizes them but i'll be sure when i test them. Ciao

OpenSuse 10.3 on my Vaio VGN FS 740/W
Jan 10, 2008
As i said before i have on my Vaio, Vista and OpenSuse 10.3
Now it's been a while that i am testing Opensuse and i'm starting to think that i should remove vista completely.
I'm doing this for Linux on Laptops so anyone with my notebook could try this distro.
Kernel 2.6.22.5 comes with the installation. I upgraded to kernel 2.6.22.13 and everything is fine.
Touchpad is a little bit too sensible but i get used to it. 3 Usb works fine, i haven't tested the PCMCIA and the Firewire (IEEE 13943). FN key does't work but you can modify the shortcut keys as you like.
Mounting Ntfs partition can be done during boot, but it's better to do it after so you mount ntfs with permissions. We are 5 students living together and we have a local Network, with Samba i had no problem joining it.
The only problem i had was when i got the update, i installed everything and after reboot my resolution went 1024x768; the strange thing was that if i enable the desktop effects my resolution returned 1280x800, so pay attention when you get the update. I don't like the keyring but i like very much Gnome.
I installed the gspca drivers and my webcam Creative Instant works fine with Skype beta 2 and with Ekiga. I use Ekiga on Sip with Voipcheap to make phone calls and the sound is great.
Hope this helped smb, Ciao.
